Isaac with "THE" Blue dog painted on his face @iheartSAM

Isaac got his face painted yesterday (I think for his first time) at the Seattle Art Museum's Family Festival. The artist and I asked him what he wanted on his face. He said, "Dog."

I asked him, "What kind? What color?"

"Um, blue."

Then the artist asked Isaac, "Do you want 'A' blue dog, or do you want 'THE' blue dog?"

And Isaac replied, "The."

And so there you have it, Nickelodeon's Blue from Blue's Clues on his face. Bear in mind, he's never seen the show once, doesn't know who Blue is, and I really didn't want a commercial entity on his face for his first face painting :\

Never intended to pimp my face's kid for ad space.

Pics from a few days ago at the Woodland Park Rose Garden in #Seattle

These are some pics from our outing to the Woodland Park Rose Garden.  We were fortunate to have yet again, a day of gorgeous sunshine and mild temps.  I had an urge to visit the garden that day but then was reminded on our drive over that the season was a bit premature for roses to be in bloom.  Still, I was banking on taking in some sun on what I remembered to be an absolute lush carpet of grass.

True enough, roses were in the process of budding, but no blooms were to be had...except for one!  Apparently no one told this one rose bush that it was not yet the right time to be in bloom :)  We took a sniff of hybrid tea rose goodness and blissed out walking through the garden.  Isaac and my wife, Paula had the right idea, going barefoot.

While they were running around, wrapped up in a game of chase, I took a few snapshots of lamb ears, lavender, and various other features of the garden.  I also sat near a patch of clovers and did an obligatory search for four-leafers.  Found one, but it was mangled a bit and I "returned" the luck back to the patch :)

I will reprise this post with another when the roses make their appearance in all their glory!

Isaac and and Arthur Fonzarelli would've been friends.

So on our way to the Seattle Art Museum today, Isaac was unusually silent throughout the ride.  When I had a chance to look back to check if he had passed out, there he was just looking out the window, in his shades, and contemplating who knows what in silence.

I said, "Isaac, you look really cool!" and gave him a thumb's up.

To which he replied with a smile, and reciprocal thumb's up. :)

Nice.

Mother's Day flora out in full force at Lakewold Gardens

We spent an exquisitely gorgeous Mother's Day at Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood, WA.  In between Tacoma and Olympia, this private estate turned semi-public garden bordering on Gravelly Lake takes you away to another place and time.  Yes, you have the manicured parts of the of the garden near the mansion, but meander a bit further along the trails and find yourself lost in an almost perfect wonderland of a forest.

Pictures from our afternoon visit to the Japanese Garden at Washington Park Arboretum #UWBotanicGarden

Possibly Paula's new favorite place (definitely one of my top pics for places to be in this city!). We ventured into one of the more amazing Japanese Gardens that I've ever been to (Missouri Botanical, Portland, Shofuso House-Philadelphia...). Of course I'm sure my perspective would shift a bit should I ever be fortunate enough to visit a Japanese garden in Japan. Maybe then, we can quell Isaac's train obsession a bit with a ride on a shinkansen. The afternoon sun in Seattle was gorgeous and once again, I have to compensate for the less than stellar iPhone camera as well as my point and shoot Canon with software "enhancement." I have a feeling a DSLR is in our near future.

Oh and the koi, interestingly not as rabid for food as the one's we experienced in St. Louis!
